Astra UHD Demo Channel
Satellite operator SES is broadcasting a 4K/Ultra High Definition channel over Europe from 19.2 degrees East, and the UK and Ireland from 28.2 degrees East.
The channel’s 4K clips features a mix of colourful and extremely detailed scenes that demonstrate the clarity of Ultra HD television – urban sports, exotic animals and nature, cityscapes – along with footage of SES headquarters in Betzdorf.
Through its collaboration with industry partners, SES says it is signalling its determination to continue to lead the UHD experience and make it a commercial reality.
The Ultra-HD content is broadcast using the DVB UHD-1 Phase 1 specifications and is encoded in the HEVC Main 10 standard.
The 4K signals can be received with a standard satellite dish connected to an Ultra-HD flat screen TV featuring an integrated satellite tuner and HEVC decoder.

BT Sport Ultra HD
BT Sport Ultra HD was the UK’s first Ultra HD or 4k TV channel. Bringing you the UEFA Champions League, Barclays Premier League, UEFA Europa League and the FA Cup.
It includes BT’s new 1TB Ultra HD YouView+ set top box, giving 600 SD or 250 HD hours of storage and 47 premium channels including entertainment, documentary and lifestyle channels, with 13 in HD and the BT Sport Pack with all of the UEFA Champions League and Europe’s first Ultra HD channel, all for £15 a month.

Cable 4K
Japanese cable television content providers launched a national 4K ultra-high-definition channel in December of 2015. The channel is transmitted through the JapanCableCast platform and on the the JCSAT 2B satellite at 154.0°East. Japan Digital Service is responsible for the programming mix.
Many Japenese content providers have joined hands comprising Jupiter Telecommunications (J:COM) and KDDI. The Japan Cable and Telecommunications Association is soliciting content providers and more than 110 have expressed an intention to take part in the UHD project.
The channel airs programming covering local historic sites, arts and culture. The association will also produce its own content on various genres including sports, music and food.

Channel 4K
NexTV-F launched Channel 4K on June 2, 2014, a test 4K broadcasting service on communications satellite (CS) channels. The channel initially aired a wide variety of 4K programmes provided by NHK and commercial television stations for six hours (13:00 – 19:00) every day.
At the 2014 FIFA World Cup, it broadcast the matches produced in 8K jointly by NHK and FIFA and in 4K by FIFA. It was the world’s first attempt to widely broadcast regular 4K programming for ordinary households.
NexTV-F includes NHK, major commercial terrestrial television stations, prominent satellite broadcasters and leading cable television companies, who have served as the driving force behind Japan’s broadcasting and imaging cultures.
Many of these broadcasters have already started 4K programme production trials. Festival 4K
Festival 4K was the first TV channel that is 100% 4K native, and is entirely dedicated to music festivals , concerts, entertainment events and theatrical productions. It is a Dutch channel launched by the creators of the Brava and Djazz.tv channels.
Festival 4K broadcasts pop concerts by artists such as Kylie Minogue (the Kiss Me Once 2014 World Tour) as well as classical music concerts such as the Lang Lang concert at the Royal Albert Hall . It also offers rock and pop festivals, ballets, jazz, soul, blues, and Latin music concerts, opera , contemporary circus and magic shows, and dance music events.
4K festival brings only productions on screen in native 4K-8K, with superior picture quality at least 4320 horizontal and 2160 vertical pixels. The station is currently offered with a programme in blocks of six hours. In 2016 this will be extended to loops of twelve hours. From 2017 Festival 4K provides a unique 24-hour programming in Ultra HD.

HLG teststream & HDR Tests

SES has launched a 24/7 Ultra-HD test channesl for transmitting High Dynamic Range (HDR) content, HLG teststream.
HLG stands for Hybrid Log-Gamma.SES is, with industry partners, demonstrating several technologies for enhancing the quality of Ultra-HD television with HDR, which provides much higher contrast and offers a more realistic viewing experience. The transmission are in 4K, with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, 60p and HLG Both HDR10 and Dolby Vision re being tested.
Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) is a high dynamic range (HDR) standard that was jointly developed by the BBC and NHK. The HLG standard is royalty-free and was approved as ARIB STD-B67 by the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB). HLG is compatible with standard dynamic range (SDR) displays.
The broadcasting industry is currently in discussions to formulate a standard for HDR transmission. The goal of SES’ HDR demo channel is to allow industry partners to test the various technology candidates.
At present the channel carries Ultra-HD content from LG Electronics with a backwards-compatible HDR technology called Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG). HLG HDR content will be demoed on LG’s E6 4K OLED TV.

HOT BIRD 4K1 & FRANSAT Ultra HD

Hispasat has began permanent, unscrambled satellite transmissions of its HISPASAT 4K channel, making it available to the industry to perform tests and develop advanced solutions for new video formats.

NASA TV UHD
NASA TV UHD leverages the latest 4K Ultra HD technology to highlight beautiful imagery from the U.S. space programme. Utilising an end-to-end video delivery system from Harmonic, the channel offers live and linear 2160p60 video content, enabling consumers to enjoy crystal-clear footage on a wide range of television and IP-connected devices.
The NASA TV UHD signal is available on the AMC-18C satellite, with a North American footprint. A Digital Video Broadcast (DVB)-compliant integrated receiver-decoder (IRD) is required for reception. The channel is also available across Asia, Australia and New Zealand in C-Band.
NASA has plans to make its NASA TV UHD available online, though there is no indication as to when this might happen.
You can view launch footage of Orbital ATK’s commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station, shot on six Harmonic 4K cameras, at 1080p at 60fps on YouTube.
NASA recomend at least 13Mbps of spare bandwidth to stream its 4K footage, Netflix and Amazon require around 20-25Mbps spare, 15Mbps.

Pearl.tv UHD is the first Ultra HD channel to broadcast live, unfortunately it is only teleshopping, not necessarily of much interest to a wider audience in even higher UHD resolution.
The channel is broadcast in German. Pearl.tv UHD is produced and broadcast in Ultra HD with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels.
Pearl.tv UHD is broadcast via the Astra 1 group of satellites at 19.2° E.
